MINING: Peru orders Doe Run to shorten cleanup time
02/18/2006
Peru's Energy Ministry has ordered Doe Run Resources Corp., the world's second-largest lead producer, to bring forward a proposed 2010 deadline to complete a $100 million project to curb sulfuric gas emissions at the company's polymetallic smelter in the central Andes.
Doe Run has 30 days to provide a new time frame for cleanup projects in the town of La Oroya, 110 miles northeast of Lima, Energy Minister Glodomiro Sanchez said Friday in Lima.
St. Louis-based Doe Run wants to extend the original end-2006 deadline until 2010 to give it time to finance the investments.
